Review

Awkwardness is the operative word tonight. For a start, there are Humphrey’s inept attempts to find himself “the future Mrs Humphrey… the second” via a matchmaking website, with the help of a sceptical Dwayne. But more troublingly, there’s the question of his boss the commissioner’s possible involvement in a murder. He couldn’t be, could he…?

The victim is Saint-Marie’s outgoing governor (a brief cameo from Lucy Cohu), who dies of cyanide poisoning in the gardens of Government House, just after taking a glass of champagne from… the police commissioner himself. Assuming that he didn’t slip the poison in her glass, who on earth did?

Humphrey and co unpick a web of blackmail, bugging, love affairs, moles and a French diplomat with a vaping habit. As ever, the plot is all paper-thin but sunnily irresistible.

Summary

The island is rocked when Saint Marie's governor Caroline Bamber drops dead at her leaving party, with the commissioner standing right next to her. As DI Goodman and the team try to deduce how she could have been poisoned without their boss noticing any foul play, they find themselves entering the murky world of island politics, where blackmail, threats and corruption seem commonplace - fuelled by ongoing tension between the French and British. Meanwhile, Humphrey braves the world of online dating, under the guidance of ladies' man Dwayne - and soon finds his perfect match. Lucy Cohu and Nigel Lindsay guest star.
