Review

After its winter break, the Friends with PhDs returns in triumph – with a big smile of an episode. Speaking of which, as we know there’s a finite number of things that cause genius and social cluster bomb Sheldon Cooper to smile: a well-prepared milkshake, say, a baffling string theory equation, perhaps, or a mint Star Trek: the Next Generation action figure. To that list we can now add something else.

It all starts when Sheldon (Jim Parsons) ponders three birthday-gift ideas for his back-on-again girlfriend Amy – and one of them is a jaw-dropper. Let’s just say the audience “woo” rating is through the roof.

The rest of the story is taken up with fever-pitch excitement from Sheldon’s lovably spoddish cronies over the opening of the new Star Wars film. The geeky gags are tempered by the dry, old-school timing of Bob Newhart, appearing to Sheldon as a Jedi mentor, and there’s a sweetness to all the nudge-nudge that reminds us how special BB can be.

Summary

After more than five years of dating, Sheldon and Amy spend their first night together, while Leonard, Howard and Raj must decide who will take their extra Star Wars movie ticket. Plus, Sheldon's Obi-Wan advises him on his difficult relationship decisions. Starring Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco, with recurring guest star Bob Newhart.
