Review

The puff pastry of the plot is rolled fairly thin in this episode, particularly in the first half of the mystery when, as ever, it’s largely about asking suspects their whereabouts and checking CCTV – the small-talk of any crime drama.

Plus there are more than usual of those little non-moments that are sort-of light hearted but not quite what you’d call funny: Dwayne advises JP not to admit he loves his girlfriend, and so on.

But it’s all perfectly watchable because the guest stars include sitcom royal Wendy Craig as Humphrey’s beloved aunt and Keith Allen as a career criminal – both in their element. The murder involves a blameless conservatory salesman turfed off his balcony. Who could possibly want to kill him?

Summary

Humphrey is delighted when his Aunt Mary, the woman who inspired his love of puzzle-solving, arrives for a visit. But when she becomes the only witness to a fellow tourist's death - seemingly thrown from his hotel balcony in the middle of the night- she finds herself slap bang in the middle of a murder investigation. Meanwhile, JP takes relationship advice from Humphrey after confessing his feelings for Rosey - leaving him more confused than ever. Wendy Craig, Keith Allen and Susie Amy guest star in the island whodunit.
