Review

Nobody would call DCI Barnaby a firebrand. Once again he cracks a murder case mainly through placid patience and steady unflappability.

He and Nelson do the rounds of suspects, questioning, probing, enquiring about alibis. Then they do them all over again to ask about the lies they were told first time round, with a “Let’s try the truth this time…”

And through all this, Barnaby’s worst show of anger is when he occasionally purses his lips like someone who has just realised he’s forgotten his wallet. The murder involves a new sculpture park, where the latest exhibit turns out to be Corpse in Gold Paint.

Summary

Art comes to the Midsomer village of Angel's Rise with the opening of a new sculpture park, but when its launch is marred by murder, DCI Barnaby and DS Nelson are called to investigate. However, they must deal with an apparently unexplainable broken locket found near the scene of the crime, a host of suspects, and a complex web of deception. As the crime solving duo inspect further, they find they have to get creative to solve a case where art imitates death and everything has a deeper meaning.
