Review

It’s all laughs and sniggers when Jon Baddeley reveals the use of a sweetly carved, ruler-like object brought in to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. But the owner is almost overcome at the valuation: “No! I thought a tenner at the most,” he says, just about holding back the tears of emotion.

There’s also a brilliant story about an extremely long piece of tree dating back to a Second World War RAF raid on a Norwegian fjord. Unfortunately, one of the Lancasters accidentally brushed the top of the trees and the tree went right through the cockpit. “All this?” exclaims Fiona Bruce. “That makes me go all funny.”

Summary

Fiona Bruce presents the second programme this year from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, and discovers the story of a length of tree that ended up inside a Lancaster bomber. Treasures brought in to be valued include a harp that survived the French Revolution, a curious wooden item with an unexpected purpose, a diamond brooch found hidden inside a barometer and a pair of Second World War propaganda posters printed on hessian sacking.
