It’s somewhere in chapter one of the hospital-drama writer’s handbook: crank things up a bit by bringing in a medic’s close relative as a patient. This good and zingy episode plays that card twice. No surprise that Charlie’s son Louis is involved since, having been rescued from the depths of Bucharest’s gangland by his father’s very particular set of skills, the lad is now tottering uncertainly towards the straight and narrow. It’s a storyline with “hurried visit to the Holby crack den” written all over it.
Another staff member also has to recuse themselves from treating a new patient, leading to the filling in of a family back story that takes us to some dark places.
Following an accident in his truck, Dylan's father Brian is admitted to the Emergency Department. It is clear he and and his son are not on good terms, and Dylan takes out his anger and frustration on Dervla, causing the hound to run away. Louis steals Tess's crucifix so he can get money for drugs, but Charlie tracks him down and, realising he has developed deep vein thrombosis, takes him to the hospital. Meanwhile, Jacob's romantic side is revealed and Lily lets Ethan go.
