Review

Most Londoners will remember the summer of 2014 as one long, sunny evening in the pub, but the patients we meet here will no doubt recall it a little less fondly.

In the waiting room there’s Kieran the cyclist, who has a dislocated finger shaped like an “s”, and Niall the teacher, whose boyfriend fashioned him natty foil goggles to protect his ulcerated eyeball.

Over in Resus is grouchy 18-year-old George, whose surly attitude – which his mum insists is out of character – leads doctors to suspect a head injury. On the way to his brain scan he asks a nurse, “Is it gonna do my head in?” “No,” comes the deadpan reply, “it’s just going to see what’s in it.”

Summary

Junior doctor Simon is concerned 40-year-old doorman Alfred, who was stabbed multiple times outside the social club where he works, may have internal injuries. Eighteen-year-old student George is brought into resus with blood coming from his ear and behaving erratically, following a fight at a party, and is sent for an urgent scan when consultant Phil becomes worried he may have a life-threatening bleed on his brain.
