Series 2 - Episode 9 The Gorgon's Gaze

Review

Right now Atlantis is in the Empire Strikes Back phase of its existence: baddies on top, the shadows of their grim reign extending far and wide. But since its return, the show hasn’t hung around. This episode is a heartbreaker, and moves the plot along at such a lick that you suspect the makers knew some time ago that Atlantis’s reign would be a brief one.

Pouting Pasiphae has resumed the throne, Ariadne languishes in a cell, and our trio of heroes hides in the forest with Medusa (Jemima Rooper). It’s the former Gorgon who hatches a plan – but it’s not a popular one. Nice to see the return of ally Daedalus (Robert Lindsay plays him with a mischievous twinkle), even if, overall, it’s an episode of very surprising decisions…

Summary

Pasiphae realises she will never be a true ruler while ever she and Ariadne both have a claim to the throne, so she offers the queen her freedom - if she will renounce the crown. As wanted men, Jason and Hercules have been forced to seek refuge in the mountains, where Medusa and Pythagoras come up with their own plot, which will require a sacrifice of unimaginable proportions. Mark Addy, Jack Donnelly, Robert Emms and Jemima Rooper star in the fantasy adventure.
