Review

Nine-year-old Robert is brought into A&E with a galloping heartbeat, the result of a chronic medical condition. Though he tries breathing exercises and his dad is at his side, trying to calm him down, nothing works. He’ll need powerful medication that will stop his heart for a few seconds and then reset it. Robert is brave, but the worry on his little face is pitiable.

It’s another eye-opening glimpse through the cubicle curtains of a busy department where we also eavesdrop on the treatment of a young man brought in after falling from scaffolding, and a 74-year-old woman who has a bad accident while gardening.

Summary

Keen young rugby player Robert has a dangerously high heart rate and may need to have a pacemaker fitted - a scary thought for the nine-year-old's father. Mark, 32, has fallen 30ft from scaffolding while doing some DIY, and there's concern he may have damaged his spine. Christine, 74, arrives in A&E after an accident in her garden, and she's suffered nasty injuries to her face.
