Review

The opening scene of a band of 16th-century soldiers landing on a deserted beach may get you scrabbling for your Radio Times to check whether you're watching an amateurish Age of Discovery drama by mistake. But in fact it's the Saint-Marie Heritage Society re-enacting the French invasion of the island in the mid-1500s. Among the motley crew are some familiar faces (Adrian Lukis, Amanda Root and Tyger Drew-Honey), but one of them is soon dead - apparently poisoned by the authentic French stew they've all eaten.

The investigation then follows its traditional Agatha Christie-style route with suspects and motives gently washing in and out like the Caribbean tide. And Humphrey continues to make puppy-dog eyes at the lovely - but apparently oblivious - Camille. Except as the episode ends she announces that she has something she has got to say to him. And you just know that, whatever it is, it's not what he's been waiting to hear.

Summary

The Saint Marie Heritage Society is re-enacting the French invasion of the island when its president dies. At first it looks like an extreme reaction to a dodgy stew as the rest of the group have fallen ill - but when lab reports reveal there was poison in the pot, Humphrey is left wondering why the victim was the only one to end up in the mortuary. Meanwhile, Dwayne takes Humphrey out on the town to show him his own way of celebrating the founding of Saint Marie, and the DI continues to struggle with his feelings for Camille. Caribbean whodunit, guest starring David Bamber and Tyger Drew-Honey.
