Robot Wars

Series 1 - Episode 4

Review

It’s a great series, this. Some of the bouts fizzle into stalemate as parts fail and drivers wrestle vainly with their remote controls but others are spectacular. Tonight, manic commentator Jonathan Pearce squeals like an angle grinder as one fight gets tasty “This is a Robot wars classic! An absolute belter!” he yells, and it is.

As usual each of the machines has a definite personality, from the quaint, fibre-glass-and-wood Terror Turtle to a spinner called PP3D with a low-down cutting disc that could be its Achilles wheel. One robot, though, turns out to be satisfyingly aggressive, managing to toss over not one but two of the bigger, chunkier house robots in one bout. Flipping brilliant.

Summary

Dara O Briain and Angela Scanlon present more battles in the arena. A team of engineering students has created a robot that is able to move easily in any direction, which they send into battle against a group of holiday camp staff and a father and son duo whose machine is equipped with huge piercing claws.
