Review

Old Top Gear always felt like entertainment first, car show second. New Top Gear has reversed the wiring and feels like a show aimed at car nuts with the odd funny bit thrown in. These often come courtesy of Matt LeBlanc who, with his deadpan drollery feels like the main presenter, our host. The bigger problem is that Chris Evans, brilliant broadcaster as he is, will always be a DJ at heart so his default mode is high-pitched hype – something many viewers have tired of fast. Luckily, there’s strength in depth among the presenters and this week the solidly expert Chris Harris tests the BMW M2 while Rory Reid, the show’s best discovery, retraces a historic journey in the Jaguar F-Type SVR.

Summary

Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc take a trip to Dingle to check out Rolls Royce's new model the Dawn, and put it to the test to see if it can outperform one of the company's most successful cars, the 1976 Cornishe. Rory Reid retraces a historic journey against the clock when he delivers a Jaguar F-type SVR to the Geneva Motor Show, while Chris Harris takes the new BMW M2 for a test drive. Jennifer Saunders and The Great British Bake Off's Paul Hollywood are this week's Stars in a Rallycross Car.
