The Troubled Man

Series 4 - Episode 3 The Troubled Man

There’s a tender, elegiac feel to this last ever Wallander with Kenneth Branagh, as the detective struggles to face the future while his memory fractures and slips.

But Kurt, who has concealed his diagnosis from everyone close to him, must regroup as best he can when his daughter Linda arrives at his house in a panic – her father-in-law Hakan has vanished.

As Kurt intones the beautiful poem The Half-Finished Heaven by Nobel laureate Tomas Transtromer on the soundtrack, he returns to that huge austere house by the lake, Hakan and wife Louise’s unhappy home.

Though suspended after last week’s dreadful lapse, Kurt digs into Hakan’s former life as a submarine commander. But his illness intrudes, pulling him from the present into a lonely half-world of noise and glare.

Branagh is magnificent as a man adrift and afraid, and he will tear at your heart.

The detective takes on his most challenging case as he searches for Linda's father-in-law, with the only clue to his whereabouts being an incident on board a submarine 25 years ago. As the case takes a devastating turn, Wallander is plunged into the shady world of Cold War-era politics and faces a battle to protect his daughter. Final episode of the crime drama, starring Kenneth Branagh.
