We’ve spent the past week watching cute kids singing with remarkable maturity, dance troupes doing back flips and a fair few acts that defied description. But at least we were spared the tinnitus-style music of a theremin, an ear-bleeding version of I Feel Pretty and dad-and-daughter pole dancers, none of which made it through the auditions.
But now it’s the final and while, at the time of writing, there’s no way to predict who’ll be in it, it’s bound to produce a couple of hours of great entertainment.
There may be as many as 12 million of us settling down tonight to find out who will follow in the footsteps of Jules O’Dwyer and Matisse (who performed in last Wednesday’s show), Collabro, Attraction and all the other previous winners. By 10pm Ant and Dec will have announced which act is going to do just that and appear at the Royal Variety Performance later this year.
Summary
After weeks of tough auditions and five fiercely competitive semi-finals, the national talent search comes to a close as the remaining acts perform one last time. Mel and Jamie, 100 Voices of Gospel, Wayne Woodward, Alex Magala, Richard Jones, Boogie Storm, Beau Dermott, Balance Unity, Craig Ball and Jasmine Elcock are the hopefuls - plus the two wildcards chosen by the judges and the public. Their aim is to win a slot at this year's Royal Variety Performance and get their hands on the £250,000 cash prize. All they have to do is impress the voting public, as the opinions of judges Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon count for nothing - who wins is entirely down to the viewers at home. Plus, to celebrate 10 series of the show, tonight also sees a special `best of' performance orchestrated by Diversity's Ashley Banjo. Presented by Ant and Dec. Last in the series.
