Review

It’s hard to see France v Albania being anything other than an emphatic win for the hosts, but who knows, perhaps they’ll be polite enough to let minnows Albania, making their very first appearance in a major tournament, get on the scoreboard.

Summary

France v Albania (Kick-off 8.00pm). Mark Pougatch presents coverage of the match at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, where the teams play their second fixture in Group A. Despite losing four of the six previous meetings between these nations, Albania will enter this contest with confidence having fared well in the two most recent encounters against the French, both of which have taken place in the last two years as the host nation continued to prepare for this tournament. Firstly, in November 2014, Didier Deschamps' men required a second-half equaliser from Antoine Griezmann to spare their blushes and salvage a 1-1 draw on home soil having trailed 1-0 at half-time, and that was followed in June 2015 with a 1-0 win for Albania in front of their own fans. However, it remains to be seen how they perform on the big stage having never featured at an international tournament before, while France can boast of winning the European Championships in 1984 and 2000, as well as the World Cup in 1998, with two of those wins coming when Les Bleus were the host nation. With commentary by Clive Tyldesley and Glenn Hoddle, and analysis by Christian Karembeu, Louis Saha, Emmanuel Petit, Marion Bartoli and Ian Wright.
