Review

Austria start as favourites. Yes, you may cherish a folk memory of Hungary as a footballing superpower but get real, Grandad - that was the 1950s and the Magyars haven’t been to a major tournament in 30 years.

Austria’s glory days may also be behind them, but they cruised through qualifying and include a batch of strong Bundesliga players as well as Leicester City’s Christian Fuchs in defence.

Summary

Austria v Hungary (Kick-off 5.00pm). Mark Pougatch presents all the action from the opening match in Group F, which comes from the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux in France. Austria's only previous appearance in this competition was in 2008 when they qualified as co-hosts. Although they failed to win a match, their performances were credible in a 1-1 draw with Poland and narrow 1-0 defeats against Croatia and Germany. This time around they will be expecting to fare better given their excellent performances in qualifying that saw them claim nine wins and a draw from their 10 matches to finish ahead of the likes of Russia, Sweden and Montenegro. Hungary's path to the finals was slightly less comfortable, as they finished third in their group behind Northern Ireland and Romania before defeating Norway 3-1 on aggregate in the play-offs to qualify for this competition for the first time since 1972. With commentary by Joe Speight and Iain Dowie, and analysis by Lothar Matthaus, Louis Saha and Slaven Bilic.
