Review

Amid a rash of recent big-theatre variety revivals, this is up there with the best. It starts well this week with a funny set from one of Britain’s best stand-ups – an easy booking, since he’s the host. From there McIntyre is always in command, effortlessly skating over a shortage of funny responses in the irresistible Send to All segment (Bruno Tonioli’s famous friends apparently aren’t big texters) and getting involved with an impressive Cirque du Soleil acrobatic routine.

The finale, in which an unsuspecting member of the public becomes one of the acts, is charm itself, and there’s support from comic Rob Beckett and chart-toppers Years & Years. It’s a fine slice of weekend cheer.

Summary

The comedian hosts another evening of entertainment at London's Theatre Royal on Drury Lane. This week, he is joined on stage by fellow stand-up Rob Beckett, and introduces an acrobatic dance performance by Romeo of the Cirque du Soleil. He also invites electro-pop trio Years and Years to play for the assembled live audience, and a handyman receives the surprise of his life when he becomes the Unexpected Star of the Show. Plus, Michael hijacks Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli's mobile phone, composing another embarrassing message to deliver to his contacts in Celebrity Send To All.
