The Durrells

Series 1 - Episode 6

Review

Louisa’s announcement that she’s to marry Sven doesn’t get a great response from her children… or from Spiros, for that matter. Neither does their decision to marry within a fortnight. Larry, in particular, is suspicious about such haste and voices his concerns to his clueless siblings. “Where have you been all your life?” he shrieks at pea-brained Leslie in exasperation. “Outside, mainly - shooting,” is the literal response.

Corfu has clearly worked its magic on the Durrell family (the youngsters are considerably less annoying and self-centred than at the start), so the series ends with a joyful, sun-dappled party and plenty of ends left untied in preparation for series two.

Summary

The family prepares for a celebration, and Margo is determined to persuade the reclusive Countess Mavrodaki to attend. Sven is put to the test by his potential family, but seems to make a good impression. Gerry begins to question whether keeping animals in his personal zoo is fair, and considers releasing them into the wild.
