Ford's Dagenham Dream

Ford's Dagenham Dream

The changing fortunes of the motor company, which began making cars at its Dagenham factory in the 1950s and produced popular models including the Zephyr and Cortina, as well as the stylish Capri, which appealed to the younger generation in the 1970s. At its peak the Ford plant was churning out more than 3,000 vehicles every day, but with success came increasing demands on the assembly-line workers, who developed a love-hate relationship with the cars.
