Summary
Alex Beresford trawls through centuries of historic data and analyses the latest scientific research to find out if winter in Britain is going to become colder. He discovers how freezing temperatures can shut down the transport network, kill livestock and present hazards to the public, and looks back to the severe winter of 1962-63, the coldest in more than 200 years. Travelling further back in time, he examines the Little Ice Age, extending from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Could such a long period of chilly weather happen again?
