The Great Interior Design Challenge

Series 1 - Episode 6 Almshouses/Southwark

By far the most interesting part of this series, which continues throughout the week, is glimpsing the homes of the contestants. Tonight’s trio of amateur interior designers each has the task of redecorating the tired living room of an almshouse in Southwark, south London.

Neil is asked to liven up bicycle buff Nigel’s messy living space, though after seeing Neil’s own home with its splashes of colour, we wonder how the style he describes as “updated granny chic” will suit Nigel, who needs room for a bicycle repair shop. And will Lorna’s design for a living room with a “Casablanca, film noir feel” go down well with no nonsense, chintz-hating resident, jazz musician Seamus?

Three more contestants try to win a place in the quarter-finals as they have 48 hours to redesign the sitting rooms of Georgian almshouses in Southwark, central London, with the help of a builder and a budget of £1,000. Presenter Tom Dyckhoff learns about the history of the properties, before judges Sophie Robinson and Daniel Hopwood decide who will progress.
