Review

Australians have a huge appetite for this culinary contest and it’s easy to see why. The first round is a cross between MasterChef and Come Dine With Me: pairs of amateur cooks turn their homes into a restaurant for the two judges – Lorraine Pascale and Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton – and fellow contestants.

In this episode they’re in Dublin, where best friends Clare and Rebecca run around the kitchen like headless chickens while their guests/rivals sharpen their knives and Atherton’s nose wrinkles (the company apparently more distasteful than the menu). The formula may be on the stale side, but no less moreish for it.

Summary

Chefs Lorraine Pascale and Jason Atherton challenge six pairs of amateur cooks from different regions around the UK and Ireland to participate in a culinary contest, in which they compete to win £25,000. In the first edition, they are asked to launch an `instant restaurant' in their respective home towns, with each couple given one day to create a three-course meal.
