Review

Robbie Williams has gone through many phases, both personally and professionally. From Cheeky Chappy, through Annoying Chappy, he’s come out the other side as Grey-Haired Responsible Dad and Husband and Almost Elder Statesman of British Pop Chappy.

He appears to have morphed in the process into Frank Sinatra Chappy, too, thanks to his (in my view) thoroughly misguided attempts to do swing music. Swing can only be swung by Frank, Dean or Sammy, but Williams won’t be deterred. He’s from Stoke-on-Trent, but he does his American accent thing once more in this special gig from the London Palladium, singing songs, complete with big band, from his new album, the provocatively titled Swing Both Ways.

Of course there are guests, including Rufus Wainwright, Lily Allen and, er, Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog, fresh from making a new Muppets film in London.

Summary

The former Take That star performs an evening of swing music and his own solo songs, recorded at the London Palladium on November 8 2013 and taken from his album Swings Both Ways. Featuring special guests Lily Allen, Rufus Wainwright and Muppet megastars Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog.
