This week’s theme is family favourites, which apparently involves giving a lot of love to your ingredients. And they are mostly sugar, butter and other heart-attack-inducing goodies. Your arteries will start clogging as soon as you look at Tom’s divinely creamy smoked haddock omelette.

You can see why his pub food has won him two Michelin stars, though. Simple dishes such as baked beans on toast, apple crumble and roast chicken all get cheffy treatment that lifts them from the mundane to the sublime. And although Tom’s geezer banter gets a bit wearing, it’s endearing to see this respected chef laugh at himself when he slops milk all over the worktop.
