Review
by
Jane Rackham
A woman’s body is found in the boot of her car on Saddleworth Moor. She’s been brutally raped and badly battered. DCs Scott and Bailey nab a suspect in double-quick time and after some gentle questioning it appears to be case closed – surely the speediest bit of crime solving in the history of TV detection.
Despite the straightforward plot, the depiction of police procedures feels satisfyingly realistic while Lesley Sharp, Suranne Jones and Amelia Bullmore (as DI Gill Murray) turn in solid, believable and very watchable performances.
Admittedly, the ongoing thread about Rachel Bailey’s pregnancy is a little clichéd, but the bubbling-under story about Scott’s obsession with a cold case concerning a murdered girl (which also allows for a touching supporting turn from Downton Abbey’s Kevin Doyle) makes you want to come back for more.
Summary
Janet reopens the investigation into the murder of childhood friend Veronica, Rachel receives news that makes her personal life even more complicated, and a teenage murderer is successfully charged, but horrific events start to unravel following his arrest. Crime drama, guest starring Sally Lindsay, with Lesley Sharp and Suranne Jones.
