For a group of outsiders, the Goth Kids are getting suspiciously popular. The writers have already devoted several episodes to these black-clad misanthropes, using them to poke fun at the way many sub-cultures obsess over tiny differences in clothing.
Here, the goths are forced to team up with their old enemy, the vampire kids, to take down a common enemy: emos. Much of the humour comes from the bickering between these warring tribes, who on the face of it are so similar they’re almost indistinguishable.
As you would expect from South Park, there’s a lesson to be learned about identity as performance. As you would expect from the latest series, this gets lost as the episode ramps up the weirdness. An acquired taste then, for those who aren’t a total conformist sell-out.
