The new boy at UCOS (boy being a relative term) has something reserved, faintly sinister about him. He could be mistaken for a cold fish, except he’s not nearly as cold as he appears, and tonight he shows that he may in fact be more sensitive than the rest of them put together.
The case of the week is a satisfying one, too, with a denouement that makes the kind of emotional sense New Tricks storylines aren’t always famous for. A jogger disappears in Epping Forest. Firmly in the frame is his bullying father-in-law, who was also his boss. Look out for a glimpse of the young Gerry, aged eight.
Sandra and the team investigate why five years earlier a man seemingly vanished during his morning run and has not been seen since. The alarm was raised when he never made it to work at the construction company belonging to his father-in-law, who has a history of violence, and the detectives' suspicions grow when they realise how much the missing man's wife is scared of her dad. Could he have had something to do with his son-in-law's disappearance? Amanda Redman, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Denis Lawson and Dennis Waterman star.
