Review

RT’s Sarah Millican presents the first in a new series of this near-the-knuckle stand-up show. She gets off to a rollicking start with a breathtaking, unrepeatable observation about a certain irresistible feeling that comes over her when she’s on the phone to her mother.

We’re on more sedate ground when we learn about the joys and puzzlements of buying a house when you’ve spent your life renting (“a builder told me I needed a damp proof course and I told him ‘I haven’t got time to go to college’”). And have you ever tried toasting bread in front of a log-burner?

Also on a sturdy opening-night bill are Joe Lycett, who’s very funny about the implacable logic of parking enforcement personnel, and a highly energetic Russell Kane. He has some sport with Australians in the audience and Britain’s binge-drinkers.

Summary

Sarah Millican hosts an evening of stand-up at the Apollo in Hammersmith, west London, treating the audience to her own brand of humour, before introducing routines by camp comic Joe Lycett and award-winning funnyman Russell Kane.
