Series 14 - Episode 16 Killer Moves

Review

A murder case based around a chess tournament sounds more Midsomer Murders than CSI. But it turns out that the blandest bore in the Vegas crime lab team, Greg Sanders, used to be captain of his high school chess team, so he takes centre stage in a mystery that starts with an Elvis impersonator and a black bird being found dead. Do you see what the killer did there?

It scarcely needs an Only Connect champion to see what’s afoot and soon there’s a whole series of murders that look to be part of a grim point-scoring exercise. None of this is what you might call CSI’s natural game but it makes for an enjoyably daft gambit.

Summary

When the deaths of an Elvis impersonator and an impaled bird found nearby are linked to a chess tournament, Greg decides to call on his former chess mentor Paul Lomax for help. After speaking to the director of the competition, the team discovers that it is part of a multi-city tour. Three other recent deaths are connected to the event when it becomes clear that each mimics a turn from a match played in 1998 - but will the CSIs track down the killer before another move is made? Crime drama, starring Ted Danson and Eric Szmanda.
