Review

There’s a very loud and clear message to SVU in this episode. So loud and clear, in fact, it becomes a kind of extended public information film, dressed up as sexual melodrama. The theme is HIV and sexual mores: a teenage party girl is found dead in a park after local residents ignore her screams – yes, it’s cheery from the outset.

Using a technique called “surface enhanced raman spectroscopy” (it’s an actual thing) the world-weary medical examiner is able to establish who strangled her but then... all that turns out to be no more than a scene-setter for the main plot about a stockbroker with horribly lax morals and access to a website called anonymousquickie.com. There’s one good courtroom twist.

Summary

Benson and Stabler investigate the death of 17-year-old Anna McWilliams and discover she was using an internet site to arrange one-night stands with strangers. Warner reveals Anna was HIV positive - as was the man she was meant to meet on the night she died. Had he been deliberately passing on the virus by having unprotected sex?
