Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

These gently nostalgic dramas based on GK Chesterton’s characters are immensely popular with daytime viewers. The new episodes shown just after New Year got audience figures that some primetime dramas would be more than happy to get.

In this episode Father Brown and his friends are invited to view a jewel-encrusted cross, a gift from the Pope to the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth, which is on display in Gloucester. Father Brown is convinced that Flambeau (John Light) will try to steal it – and sure enough the cross disappears. But is its theft as straightforward as it seems?
