Episode 2: Gogglesprogs

Summary

In Shropshire, Toby, Sam and James share a love of video games, while in Neath Ashton adores documentaries though his sister Darcie and cousin Cari both prefer the soaps. In this episode, the young TV viewers give their unique takes on Take Me Out, Countdown and Star Wars.

Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

The sprogs are transfixed by Eddie Izzard: Marathon Man for Sport Relief, where the comic ran 27 marathons in 27 days to honour his hero Nelson Mandela.

“Nelson Mandela?” wonders one of the young viewers. “Isn’t he the man who said ‘I have a dream that my children will grow up to be… er… something’?”

They are a brilliant bunch of kids, perceptive, clever and funny. Countdown is neatly condensed as “a really old game and there’s people sitting down” while the youngsters reveal they know a thing or two about gender politics and sexism watching scantily clad Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi; “She’s wearing a bikini, but she’s not going swimming?”
