Episode 12: Walmer Castle 2

Summary

Fiona Bruce presents the second of two programmes from Walmer Castle in Kent, where the team values a jacket worn by President Kennedy that could be one of the most valuable items ever featured on the series. Other items brought in include an art deco mask that terrifies its owner's children, an enamel advertising sign, and a letter from Lord Nelson that has an unexpected connection to the owner's dead husband.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

You’d think a maker’s mark would immediately guarantee authenticity and age, but that’s not necessarily true. At the Roadshow’s second visit to Walmer Castle in Kent, two vases turn out to be newer than the owners thought.

As always we hear wonderful stories including a very sad tale about a charming engagement ring and an astounding one about a leather jacket worn by John F Kennedy while conducting an affair with a young woman in France just a few weeks before his wedding in 1953.

After that valuation the current owner tells the crowd, “I’m never going to sell it.” Then after a pause he shouts, “Oh yes I am!”
