Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Veep is all kinds of funny. It can be clever funny, stupid funny or rude funny. But it also knows how to crank up real feelings now and then, in the gloves-off cruelty that Selina Meyer and her White House staff lay on each other. Mostly that’s in the form of quips (“If anyone can do this, Dan, I’m confident you or the guy we hire to replace you can,” barks chief of staff Ben.)

Occasionally, it gets serious, as when Selina flames her devoted bagman Gary, who has wildly overspent on a state dinner. “Who do you think you are, Gary Antoinette?” she demands in a scene full of raw emotion. But Gary fights back.
