Episode 1: Iowa

Summary

The return of the comedy following the exploits of four twenty-something Brooklyn women. Hannah has moved on to pastures new and enrolled in a writers' workshop at the University of Iowa, while everyone else - including boyfriend Adam - has stayed put in New York. Marnie is in the throes of an ill-advised love affair with musician Desi, and Shoshanna receives a reality check as she struggles to find a job. Starring Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet and Jemima Kirke.

Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Not content with writing, directing, producing and starring in Girls, 28 year-old Lena Dunham recently released a (characteristically controversial) memoir, for which she reportedly earned a $3.5 million advance. Such literary success is still mere fantasy for her tragi-comic alter ego Hannah Horvath.

At the start of this fourth series she swaps hipster Brooklyn for the sticks, after being accepted onto a prestigious creative-writing course in leafy Iowa. Thankfully small-town life is unlikely to put an end to the bold behaviour that has seen Dunham hailed as a TV revolutionary.
