Episode 3: Female Author

Summary

Hannah receives a visit from Elijah, before attending a poets' party where she shares her views on the expectations put on female writers. Back in New York, Marnie gets a wake-up call from Ray about Desi's true intentions, Shoshanna has a job interview, and Adam crosses paths with Jessa following an AA meeting.

Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

What Lena Dunham does so beautifully in her show is to balance the most nightmarish moments of being a confused 20-something with brilliantly funny dialogue. Three episodes into the fourth series, Hannah is struggling to endear herself to her creative writing classmates in Iowa, a situation not helped by her major faux pas at the poets’ party.

Back in New York, Marnie discovers that being “the other woman” is a real slog, and the worryingly optimistic Shoshanna treads where most millenials wouldn’t dare and turns down a job, explaining that she only attended the interview to “test the firmability” of her handshake. Dunham’s characters are agonisingly human, and more addictive than ever.
