Episode 22: Series 10 Episode 22

Summary

Seventy-five-year-old Gerry is rushed to A&E with a dangerously high heart rate of more than 250bpm, and doctors suspect an underlying chest infection is the cause. Meanwhile, 92-year-old Margaret arrives at St George's after falling over and hitting her head, and six-year-old Daniel is treated for an infected blister on his foot

Review

Thoroughly scaring the doctors in this episode is Gerry, 75, whose heart rate is 250 beats a minute, three times what it should be. To the relief of his wife – and of us viewers – it’s quickly brought under control, but what caused it in the first place?

At the tamer end of the spectrum is six-year-old Daniel’s big blister, and 92-year-old Margaret’s bump to the head. She’s joined by her younger friend, Yvette; having lost her husband and daughter, Margaret is pragmatic about the benefits of having a friend decades her junior: “At least she won’t die before me!”

The lovely, sparky Margaret appears the picture of health, but tests reveal something worrying – for the doctors, at least. Margaret, throughout, is the picture of serenity.
