Episode 8: Only the Brave

Summary

The team reinvestigates the killing of notorious biker-gang leader Eddie Chapman when his son's girlfriend brings them new information about his death. She reveals her partner must avenge his father's murder as part of a final initiation into the gang, but believes the wrong man is being targeted. Meanwhile, Sandra is forced to reassess her position at Ucos when a former colleague suggests she is wasting her career. Starring Amanda Redman, with her real-life daughter Emily Glenister in a supporting role.

Review

A frightened young girl turns to Ucos with new information about the murder of a motorcycle gang leader. She is played by Emily Glenister, who bears a remarkable resemblance to her dad Robert Glenister and her mum, Amanda Redman. You’ll note the similarities when the camera swings between them as the girl, Stephanie, pours out her heart to Sandra (Redman).

It’s a very, very talky New Tricks and the central plot is hopelessly confusing. But the pattern runs true to form: lots of repetition and once again a presentable new interloper – this week it’s Shaun Dingwall, as a detective mate of Sandra’s.
