Episode 17: The Friendship Turbulence

Summary

After arguing with Sheldon, Howard tries to make amends by taking him to Nasa's headquarters in Houston. Elsewhere, Penny has second thoughts about quitting her job as a waitress when her car dies, while Amy tries to find Raj a date. Comedy, starring Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco.

Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Turbulence is this episode’s theme: a storm brews when Penny reveals to Leonard she has turned down an acting role; and Sheldon details a decade of insults from so-called friend Howard. Raj, meanwhile, wants Amy to be his online “wingman” in asking out a woman he meets on the internet.

How these three strands resolve is what turns an OK episode into an involving one. Howard’s decision to be a better friend to Sheldon, and Leonard’s to support his struggling girlfriend, unfold winningly (the writers’ knack of tempering the sarcasm with sweetness always works a treat). So no prizes for guessing whose plan backfires in humiliating fashion.
