Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

American comedy hero Bob Newhart won an Emmy in September after his first Big Bang appearance. You’ll see how in his comeback as TV science presenter Professor Proton. Newhart is now 84 but his comic faculties are as honed as ever, and his trademark faltering delivery envelops a punchline like a well-worn cardigan. Sheldon is thrilled to spot Proton while shopping, and proceeds to pester the prof at every turn...

Sheldon’s irksome habits are in full flow, and if you’ve ever wondered why flat-mate Leonard puts up with him, there’s an answer here. It’s unfussy to the point of throwaway, but it’s hugely touching, and all part of the show’s unwritten mantra, “Celebrate difference”.
