Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Sheldon Cooper may be a genius, but his behaviour in this episode bears comparison with a monkey. Specifically a capuchin monkey – in neurobiologist Amy’s visual stimuli experiments. It’s just one of the treats in the endlessly inventive boff-com; others are a knuckle-gnawing lunch interruption from Sheldon and possibly the weirdest game of Top Trumps ever (“Hell clam!”).

The peg on which all these comic coats are hung is a study of office relationships. Bernadette learns that her husband Howard would hate to work in the same place as her – and you can imagine how that goes down. Bernadette is like the tornado-generating donkey in the cartoon Arabian Knights. Don’t whatever you do yank her tail!

With Sheldon’s gift for the unfortunate turn of phrase, actor Jim Parsons must have a constant struggle to keep a straight face. Maybe the outtakes reel is hours long.
