Episode 4: Crocodile Blues

Summary

Teetering dangerously on the brink of extinction, the Indian gharial is the world's oldest species of crocodile. Last winter, the river-dwelling reptiles suffered a devastating and mysterious malaise, severely reducing the population of the already endangered species. Animal expert Rom Whitaker tries to get to the bottom of the rapid decline in numbers, investigating captive breeding schemes and observing the creature's behaviour in the wild.
