Episode 6: Dependent

Summary

Following the brutal murder of a gay man, Sam and Ronnie embark on a desperate mission to track down the victim's adoptive son, who has gone missing. The prime suspect soon emerges as the child's biological father - an alleged violent homophobe unable to stomach the idea of the youngster being brought up in a same-sex household - but was he acting alone? Guest starring Glynis Barber, with Bradley Walsh and Paul Nicholls.

Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

A heated wrangle between a baby’s adoptive parents and its birth parents leaves one person lying on the pavement with their head kicked in and a missing child. It doesn’t take Ronnie and the team long to arrest the culprits but what they don’t know is who administered the killer blow.

The most interesting aspect about this episode (other than Glynis Barber playing the child’s grandmother) is that CPS barrister Kate Barker obviously has serious misgivings about the prosecution. In fact she seems quietly determined to derail the entire case although nobody knows what her problem is. It’s time for good old Ronnie to have a discreet word with her.
