Rating: 3 out of 5.

When you recall the massive teams of workmen beavering away on some of the builds on Grand Designs, it makes it all the more impressive seeing just one man tackle an equally challenging project. Builder and roofer Graham is restoring the cavernous St Peter’s Barn in Norfolk all by himself. True, he knows what he’s doing, but this building is cathedral-sized and has endured numerous botched renovations in the past.

After 16 months of dogged determination (as well as an astonishing 20,000 nails, 9,000 screws, seven miles of under-floor heating, and 9,000 roof tiles) Graham merely shrugs and says, “The journey makes you appreciate it more.”
