Episode 8: DIY SOS: Homes for Veterans - Part Two

Summary

Nick Knowles and the team continue with their most ambitious project to date, with the assistance of the local community and two royal helpers, Prince William and Prince Harry. The second edition sees them create a home for a veteran, who is a triple amputee after an IED blew up in Afghanistan. They are also aiming to renovate the fronts of the houses on the street and put in new utilities, as well as creating a lasting legacy in the form of a support centre, which will help other veterans find homes and jobs.

Review

In the first part of this two-part special we saw the team begin their biggest undertaking to date, regenerating a couple of streets in Manchester for the use of ex-service personnel, with added contributions from a couple of royal visitors. This wasn’t just the making-over of one home for one deserving family, but the creation of an entire community, including the building of a veterans’ support centre, and upgrading the rest of the houses in the street.

As ever with DIY SOS, though, nothing goes quite according to plan. There are the inevitable delays and late nights as the extent of the job they’ve given themselves finally hits home. That two-week deadline’s looking increasingly precarious.
