Episode 3: Weekend Specials

Summary

The Michelin-starred chef creates dishes for the weekend, when people have a bit more time to enjoy being in the kitchen and cook themselves something extra special. He roasts a leg of lamb wrapped in branches of bay leaves to pack in extra flavour, salt-bakes garlic and lemon before stirring them through wilted greens and fuses Malaysian and British cuisines by creating his own satay roast chicken. As not everyone gets time off at the weekend, Tom decides to cook a weekend brunch for a group of firefighters and serves up the ultimate English breakfast omelette cooked in one pan.

Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

If you were lucky enough to have Kerridge in your kitchen, you’d be a fool not to offer him a place at the table, too. Not since Jamie Oliver’s Naked Chef days has cooking been so fun. Here he christens his bay-leaf-swaddled leg of lamb “Arnie” after deciding it looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger in the film Commando.

Kerridge’s full English omelette comes with a side of banter when he enlists a fireman to be sous-chef, while the rest of the station looks on hungrily. As for the food, it looks stupendous as always – especially the “right naughty” treacle tart with butter enough to sink a ship.
