Episode 2: Tender Loving Care

Summary

The team re-examines the murder of a junior doctor strangled in 2010. Interviewing her relatives, who are all doctors, staff at her hospital and a surgeon who had been the young woman's tutor, officers hope to identify a lead that was missed during the original investigation. Depressed at the thought of his daughter Holly leaving home for university, Danny finds himself being cheered by his colleagues as they hire a pedibus for a ride through central London. Tamzin Outhwaite and Nicholas Lyndhurst star.

Review

The Tricksters are called upon to re-investigate the murder of a female junior doctor last seen after a night out in a club. This brings them into direct contact with wealthy, clever people – in this case medical professionals – people who in TV crime dramas are always haughty, self-obsessed and dismissive. Naturally, they have to be taken down many pegs by our cheerful, salt-of-the-earth cops.

A couple of minds aren't entirely focused, though. Steve (Denis Lawson) is consumed by playing the video gam Candy Crush on his phone, while Danny (Nicholas Lyndhurst) keenly feels the absence of his daughter Holly, who has left home for university.

Still, the ex-cops and their sharp boss Sasha Miller (Tamzin Outhwaite) stride the streets of bohemian Bloomsbury, where they confront shady types in drawing rooms to uncover the dead woman's unhappy past.
