Apple AirTags are finally here and available to buy now
Apple's AirTags have now been officially revealed - here's what you need to know.
After much speculation and the usual rumblings on the rumour mill, Apple finally treated us to the highly anticipated AirTags launch in its 'Spring Loaded' event. And they are available to buy now.
Hints of Apple’s item tracking devices were first uncovered in the code for the iOS 13 release back in June 2019. Since then, Apple fanatics have been excitedly anticipating the devices’ release. Like so many things last year, it seems that the AirTags arrival on the market was delayed due to the global pandemic.
More recently, rumours were flying as eagle-eyed leakers spotted a number of third-party AirTags accessories popping up on sites like eBay. But, we can confirm - the wait is finally over.

What are Apple AirTags?
The AirTags are pocket-sized Bluetooth trackers which can be attached to items such as bags, cases and keys, allowing you to track their location from Find My on your iPhone.
Similar tracking devices exist already, most notably the Tile Mate (available now for £19.99 on Amazon) and the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag, which was released earlier in 2021 for £29. The Galaxy SmartTag is available from a number of retailers, including Amazon and John Lewis, in two colours; black and oatmeal.
What's the difference? Unlike competitors, Apple won't be aware of your location or the location of your items.

What do Apple AirTags look like?
Rumours around Apple AirTags gave us a good idea of what the devices would look like. During the Spring Loaded event, Apple confirmed you will be able to customise your AirTags with emojis. Plus, Apple has teamed up with Hermes for a special edition designer version of AirTags with a leather holder/strap.
In addition to the design of the tracker itself, Apple also revealed that the tiny device will be compatible with plenty of fun accessories.
The Leather Loop is also available to buy now for £29 at Currys.
How much do Apple AirTags cost?
AirTags are one of Apple's most affordable products to date. The brand has confirmed that a single AirTag will set you back £29, or alternatively, you can purchase a set of four for £99.
This is fairly in line with competitor Tile who sell a Tile Pro version with a larger tracking range for £29.99. There are also various bundles, including Bluetooth tracking stickers.

How do Apple AirTags work?
AirTags will work using Precision Finding via the Find My app. After you've attached the AirTag to an item, Find My will give you feedback (including how many feet away you are) to help you locate the AirTag.
At the event, it was stressed that AirTags were "designed to track items, not people", so you don't need to share your location with anyone (including Apple) to make use of AirTags.
