Women make their debut on Fifa 16 cover

US striker Alex Morgan, Canada's Christine Sinclair and Australia's Stephanie Catley will line up alongside Lionel Messi as women football teams make their computer game debut

Women are finally “In the Game”, as US striker Alex Morgan will line up alongside Barcelona’s Lionel Messi on the cover of Fifa 16 for the first time.

The latest edition of the computer game is the first to feature playable women’s teams, and to mark the milestone Morgan and Canada’s Christine Sinclair will appear on the covers of the US and Canadian editions respectively. In Australia, Stephanie Catley will join Messi and one more still-to-be-confirmed player on the front cover.

In the UK and Ireland, the game will feature Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson alongside Messi following a public vote. England’s women however will be one of 12 playable international teams featured in the game.

England join women’s international teams Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden and the U.S in Fifa 16.

Morgan, Sinclair and Catley all happen to play for the same domestic club, US soccer team Portland Thorns.
