Xbox One will be ‘the ultimate all-in-one home entertainment system’

Microsoft unveils the successor to the Xbox 360 which aims to take TV and gaming to a new level

Microsoft has unveiled its long awaited successor to the Xbox 360, the Xbox One.

Described by the California software giant as “the ultimate all-in-one home entertainment system” the new console will aim to deliver games, TV, movies, music, sport and Skype chat through one unit.

The system will allow users to navigate TV through an integral EPG that links to your cable, satellite or free to air provider.  A voice activated unit, the Xbox One will harness the power of the existing Kinect technology to offer a hands free connected entertainment solution to rival the upcoming Playstation 4 from Sony, and challenge other existing online entertainment portals.

As well as allowing you to find all the entertainment you need in one place, Xbox One is designed to learn about your favourite entertainment and tailor a customised dashboard experience to you.  Integral trending software will allow you to see what your friends are watching and playing, and allow you to interact with them in HD through multi-person Skype chats on your TV screen.

Microsoft’s “Snap” technology will also allow users to do two things at once on the biggest screen in their house – like play a game whilst keeping an eye on the sports scores, or making a Skype call whilst  watching a TV show with your friends.

Gamers will also be pleased with a list of new games announced for the platform, including Forza Motorsport 5, Call of Duty: Ghosts and a range of EA Sports titles including Fifa 14.

“Xbox One is designed to deliver a whole new generation of blockbuster games, television and entertainment in a powerful, all-in-one device,” said Don Mattrick, president, Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “Our unique, modern architecture brings simplicity to the living room and, for the first time ever, the ability to instantly switch across your games and entertainment.”

Xbox One is expected to be released later this year.
